Sun, Sing and Sand Tour 2011

Westonbirt School's Senior Choir win School Choir of the Year at Bournemouth's Music Festival 2011!

Westonbirt School’s Choirs couldn’t have asked for better weather during their Choir Tour to Bournemouth earlier this month.  Between performances, the girls were able to enjoy the sun, sea, sand and singing in and around Bournemouth. On the final day of the tour, the girls relaxed (!) at Splashdown Water Park.

Directed by Dr Exon at a range of venues, including St. John’s Church and Bournemouth International Music Festival, the choirs’ performances reflected the huge variety of their repertoire.  Dr Exon, Director of Music, praised the professionalism of the choir throughout the tour: “Congratulations to all the girls on the Sun, Sing and Sand Music Extravagandistic Tour! Our senior Choir are now officially Bournemouth Music Festival's School Choir of the Year! We also had an amazing concert on the Saturday and absolutely exquisite singing for the Sunday morning service. Not only do Senior Choir sing the best in the South but they also have the best sandcastle-making skills. Well done to everyone for such a successful and fun tour!"

Music is at the heart of Westonbirt School.  In 2010 all the girls achieved A*s and As in their GCSE Music examinations and last term almost 20% of the whole school entered for music practical and theory examinations, demonstrating the girls’ commitment and enjoyment of the subject.
