Year 8 pupils go baking mad!

On Wednesday, 2nd February, Mrs. Joyce’s excited Year 8 pupils took part in a cake decorating competition. The competition brief was to design, bake and decorate a birthday cake suitable for a child.

A few floury worktops (and pupils!) later, the judges were presented with 16 individual, delicious-looking cakes. The girls were competing for three awards:

-          Best overall finish
-          Most suitable for a child
-          Closest to the design

Congratulations to Kate de la Hey for securing the first award. Kate’s cake, complete with grass, handmade toadstools and a cheeky caterpillar, could have been produced at a local bakery! Kate worked completely independently and produced a birthday cake that seriously impressed.

Eleonor Parsonage took the prize for the birthday cake most suitable for a child. Eleonor’s cake came complete with a Cheshire grin – from the Pink Panther himself! Eleanor gained a few extra points for producing a cake suitable for boys and girls.

Charlotte Price scooped the prize for the birthday cake closest to the design. Charlotte’s finished cake, complete with a flying helicopter, was a perfect resemblance of her design diagram and was decorated to the highest of standards. All three winners were awarded with various cooking utensils, which they can use for the next baking competition!

Well done to all 16 girls who took part in the competition!
