This year’s Senior Maths Challenge took place on Thursday, November 4th. The challenge involved answering twenty-five multiple-choice questions in ninety minutes in school under normal examination conditions.
Fourteen Westonbirt students took part in the challenge and collectively achieved 2 golds, 7 silvers and 5 bronzes in this year’s challenge, a fantastic result. They included, Head Girl, Ashley White, who received Best in School and Gold. Over 65,000 pupils from across the UK sat the Senior Maths Challenge with roughly the top 6% receiving a gold certificate, the next 13% silver and the next 21% bronze.
1000 of the top students are invited to sit the follow-on competition, the British Mathematical Olympiad Round One and, for the second year running, Head Girl Ashley White has qualified. She will sit the 3-hour long examination, which comprises just 6 questions on December 2nd 2010.
Ashley is also the captain of the senior maths challenge team which will be competing against top schools from the South-West region at Wycliffe College, also on December 2nd. We wish Ashley and the girls good luck in the next competition!
