Westonbirt Girls visit the Royal Albert Hall
On Wednesday, 10th November, Year 8 experienced the Royal Albert Hall at its best, attending the ‘Music for Youth’ Schools Prom.  With a kaleidoscopic array of exciting music, Year 8 experienced all genres of music from classical to jazz, from pop to world music, from music theatre to experimental music, performed by young people across the country.

The diversity of the music programme provided a musical feast for Year 8 with the performances of a symphony orchestra, brass band, steel pan band, rock band, saxophone quartet, vocal quartet, a massed choir, show choir, piano trio and even some energetic Japanese Taiko drumming! The concert ended with the whole hall erupting in the famous ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ from Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1, complete with fireworks and balloons!

The concert is part of the ‘Music for Youth’ Festival (a national Festival and the largest competition in the world) where schools compete during the year from all over the country. Our Year 9 Samba Band competed in this competition last year and were judged to be “flawless” and “inspirational”.
