Westonbirt School Celebrates A Level Successes

Westonbirt School is celebrating following excellent A Level results. Of the 100% pass rate, an impressive 62% were graded A or B, 82% A* to C grades and 36% A* and A grades. Nearly 20% of girls achieved 3 or more A grades - congratulations to all of the students!
With 2010 being the first year for A*s, Westonbirt School saw 8 of its girls being awarded this prestigious grade in subjects including Chemistry, Mathematics, Art, English Literature and Economics.
Local girls were among the top achievers, including Emily Chambers of Cirencester, who gained 3 As in Biology, Geography and History and goes on to read Geography at Exeter University. Former Deputy Head Girl, Charlotte Hunt of Oakridge Lynch, Gloucestershire goes on to read Medicine at Peninsula (Universities of Exeter and Plymouth) and Laura Moreland of Stroud, awarded 2 As and a B, goes on to read Business Management and Marketing at Cardiff University.
Outstanding results were also achieved by Vera Chen, who was awarded 3 A grades and an A* and will be going to read Electrical Engineering at Imperial College, London. Kya Lee also achieved an impressive 4 A grades and will be reading Mathematics.
Of the many other success stories, girls are going on to read a range of different subjects, including English, History of Art, Psychology and Biomedical Sciences at their chosen universities, including Liverpool, Loughborough, Warwick and the University of Bath.
“With increasing national competition for sought-after university places this year, it is very rewarding to see so many of our girls gain the A Level results required to secure their places for their preferred course and institution” commented Headmistress, Mary Henderson. “I am very proud of all the girls, they have worked extremely hard and their efforts have been well rewarded by these excellent results.”
Parents too were delighted with their daughters’ achievements; “We are thrilled to bits and could not have wished for anything better”commented one parent and, “this is fantastic news, our daughter has really thrived here, it was the best decision we have ever made, we are over the moon for her.”
