Mad For Science
Westonbirt School hosted a Science and Design Technology Challenge Day on Tuesday 22nd June with the theme 'Picture This'. Over sixty Year 5 pupils from surrounding schools were invited to participate in experiments and activities, including making an egg tempura paint, investigating the nature of light, constructing a kaleidoscope, making a paint pigment by precipitation and filtration and completing a series of activities related to vision.
The pupils also experimented with thermo chromic paints where the addition of heat causes the colour to disppear.
Dr Andrea Tales, from Bristol University, also attended to speak about her research into brain imaging for BRACE, an Alzheimer's charity.
Head of Science, Miss Caroline Hinchliffe commented 'it was wonderful to see the girls having so much fun whilst learning about these scientific processes. Our Challenge Days are always well attended by visiting schools and we enjoy hosting the event enormously. Science is a popular subject here at Westonbirt and one where many of our girls excel."
