SPRING HAS SPRUNG

Spring has definitely arrived at Westonbirt School and we were delighted to welcome 70 children from local primary schools on Wednesday 17th March to enjoy the gardens and take part in our Snowdrop Planting Day.

Led by expert gardener, Mary Keen, a local and trustee of the Holfords of Westonbirt Trust, the children from Leighterton Primary School, Hawkesbury Upton School and Rose Hill Westonbirt Prep School, were introduced to the history of the snowdrop and after a demonstration of planting were split into groups to plant their own snowdrops under a variety of established trees. The children then enjoyed a walk through the grounds to the lake to see the fish before finishing off with refreshments and a rest in the glass Camellia House.  The schools have been invited to return next year to see how their snowdrops have grown.

Members of the public are invited to the school on Sunday 21st March to enjoy the snowdrops in the garden.  The gardens will be open from 2pm until 5.30pm and John Sales, former head of the National Trust's Gardens will be giving a talk about snowdrops.  Tickets for the talk (£10) need to be purchased in advance by telephoning 01666 500133. Come and enjoy the beautiful gardens and see, first hand, the restoration project the Holfords of Westonbirt Trust has undertaken to restore them to their former glory.
