GIRLS DEBATE WITH MARLING BOYS

The girls greatly enjoyed their recent debating event against local boys' senior school Marling.

The first debate, prepared on the subject "This house believes that it is unfair to place doctors in the position of assisting suicide when their primary role is the preservation of life", was declared a draw.

The unprepared debate theme, with the theme "This house believes that checks on adults working with children have gone too far", was narrowly won by Marling.

"It was great fun and the floor debate was very lively especially when Emily Carmichael stood her ground against one of the Marling floor debaters!" reports Mrs Diane Browne, Head of English and Director of Westonbirt's Gifted and Talented Programme.

"We are looking forward to competing against them again, both in school and when we travel to Cardiff to enter the first round of the Cambridge Union Schools debating competition."
