Top achievers in Westonbirt’s A Level candidates this year included some pupils who had joined the Sixth Form from Sir William Romney School (SWR), Tetbury and some who had joined from what is now our prep school, Rose Hill Westonbirt School.

Former SWR pupil Tamar Willson of Tetbury gained straight As in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics, securing her place to read Physics at Imperial College, London. Korrin Saunders (18) of Tetbury, also an SWR alumna, was awarded Bs in Chemistry, Maths and Physics and now goes on to read Chemistry and Physics at Cardiff.

Former Deputy Head Girl, Amy Falkenburg (18) of Uley gained As in Art, English Literature and History, securing her place to read English Literature at Exeter. Both Jemima and Amy came to Westonbirt from Rose Hill School.

Amelia Hawkins (18) of Sheldon with an A for English Literature and Bs for Classical Civilisation and History, has secured her place at King’s College London to read Classical Studies.

Other interesting facts and figures are as follows:
• Nearly a quarter (24%) of the pupils gained at least 3 A grades
• 40% of the exams were graded A
• 62% of the exams were graded A-B
• The top scorer was Jalie Hon (19) with 4.5 A grades and 1 C

The girls are destined for many top universities including University College London, Imperial College London, King’s College London, Bristol, Cardiff, Durham, Exeter & Warwick. They have qualified for competitive degree courses in both arts and sciences such as English Literature, History, Economics, Biology, Chemistry & Physics.

“With increasing national competition for university places it is very rewarding to see so many of our girls gain the A Level results they need to secure their places for their preferred course and institution,” says Mrs Mary Henderson, Headmistress.

“They have all worked very hard and deserve their fine results and I am proud of all of our girls.

“This year group was the first to benefit from the new Sixth Form Scholarship programme that we devised exclusively for Sir William Romney Year 11 leavers. I am now looking forward to starting the new term with our largest sixth form ever, including three new girls from Sir William Romney, and we will be visiting their school again in September to offer the new Year 11s the opportunity to apply for 2010 entry.”
