Coming top in league tables and getting the best exam results are only some of many criteria used to judge the best British schools.

When wondering how to find the best girls schools in the UK, parents often think first of looking at public school ranking lists and using the top ranking schools in the UK as their starting point.
They often ask where we rank on the national list, in comparison with the top achieving British or English schools. They also wonder how we compare nationally on the worldwide academic stage. They ask why we rank so highly when compared to other public or private schools for girls. It’s not always only a question of who gets the best public exam results or who gets the most As at A Level or GCSE.
These days parents are wiser than when government league tables were first invented. Many know that value added scores – i.e. how much a girl improves at a school from when she joins to when she leaves – can be equally or more valid a measure of what makes the best independent school in the country.
Westonbirt scores very well in league tables, often ranking among the Daily Telegraph’s Top 25 Independent Small Schools and marching up the Times’ Best Independent Schools League Table. We also rank among the top 5% of schools in the UK in terms of value added.
