Joining the Main School (Years 7-11)

Westonbirt is an independent senior school for girls aged 11-18.  It is divided into what we call "Main School" for girls aged 11-16 (Years 7-11) and the Sixth Form for ages 16-18 (Years 12-13).  Whether you join us from a state primary school or an independent preparatory school, you will be made to feel equally welcome.

Which House Will You Join?

The School is also divided into four houses which are like teams.  In Year 7, you belong to Beaufort, the Junior House, which will help you settle quickly into life at this all girls private secondary school.  At the start of Year 8, you will be promoted to one of the three Main School Houses – Badminton, Dorchester and Holford. All four of these Houses are in the same building, so no matter which House your friends belong to, it will be really easy for you to meet up and socialise.

Academic Progress

In Years 7-9 you will follow a broad curriculum that gives you the chance to try lots of different subjects, including some you’ve never studied before.

In Year 9, your teachers will give you and your parents advice on choosing the best GCSE options for you. Click here to download our GCSE subject choices handbook.

In Year 10 your GCSE studies begin in earnest, leading to the best examination results possible for a girl of your ability.

Your academic progress is of course really important, but there is much more to life than work. As you progress through the school, many extra-curricular and social opportunities will be opened up to you and each term will bring fresh challenges and excitement.

By the end of Year 11 you will have grown so much in so many ways – and you will be looking forward to joining our Sixth Form.
