Small Class Sizes Provide
Best Educational Opportunities

The guarantee of small class sizes is one of the most important reasons that discerning parents choose top independent schools in the UK. Personal, individual attention from teachers makes a huge difference to each pupil’s progress and enjoyment of a subject.

We are committed to providing the small class sizes that you desire – small enough to ensure each girl gains the individual advice that she needs, large enough to facilitate challenging class discussion and interaction.

The size of each class depends on the subject studied, the year group, the demand for a particular subject and the nature of the subject, e.g. Latin A Level is likely to be a much smaller group than English for Year 10.

Year groups vary in size and are generally smaller in Year 7 and Year 8 than in Years 9-11. Each year group will be split into 2 or more sets for lessons. The average class size is 16 and our maximum set is 20. Only in very exceptional circumstances will we go beyond 20, e.g. if we have a visiting pupil for a short stay. A Level classes are usually very smal, typically in single figures.

We reserve the right not to offer a subject if there is insufficient interest to make it financially viable, but this rarely happens in practice. Even with small classes, there are occasions when your daughter may benefit from additional one-to-one coaching. This is offered regularly in all the core subjects such as Maths and Science and may be available in other subjects on request to ensure your daughter has the best possible education.
