Admissions Information for Girls from Overseas
Like all top independent British schools, most of our pupils are British nationals whose parents are resident in the UK or overseas (expatriates). Westonbirt is also very popular with international students. This is because Westonbirt provides excellent preparation for entry to a British university both in terms of A Level results and English language training via our excellent English Language Training (ELT) department led by Miss Chris Lloyd.
We purposely restrict the total number of overseas students at Westonbirt and ense there is a mixture of nationalities represented so that no single nationality can predominate. We also have a policy that all girls must speak English during the school day which ensures they are well integrated into the school.
Excellent English Language TrainingAs part of their entrance procedure and on arrival, all international candidates are tested for their English language skills and a suitable individual programme is prepared for them. Entrance may be offered subject to their attending the appropriate number of ELT lessons for their ability. ELT lessons are scheduled for girls free periods so that they are not taken out of their normal academic timetable. (For all other subjects they are taught mainstream.)
Entrance Requirements for International CandidatesAll candidates whose first language is not English must take the School's English Langauge Examination. Their timetable will be designed to match their level of English, which must be strong enough for them to join mainstream lessons in all of the core timetabled subjects. They are also required to take the weekly number of chargeable English Language lessons recommended by Westonbirt's ELT department.
Candidates for the Sixth Form who have not been educated in an English medium school for at least three years should submit in advance an IELTS certificate to gain entry with a minimum level of 6.0 in the Reading and Writing Sections.
